“In 2017, 327,600 fragility fractures occurred in Spain, 260,000 of them in women. Fragility fractures are those caused by a low impact, such as a fall from a height corresponding to standing upright, and are the main consequence of osteoporosis, a disease that affects 22.5% of Spanish women over 50 years of age, a percentage that reaches 40% between 70-80 years of age“.

These are some of the findings of a recent study published in ROMM, Journal of Osteoporosis and Mineral Metabolism, signed by a large number of experts, including Dr. Vergés, President and CEO of OAFI and AECOSAR.

The publication states that “given the impact of fragility fractures and their sequelae on the lives of women with postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO), the aim is to describe and analyse their impact on this population”.

Thanks to the analysis, it is concluded that “fragility fractures have a high impact on the quality of life of women with OPM. It is essential to highlight those aspects that most concern them in order to optimise their approach”.
